"evening edit" starts right now. elizabeth: tonight, more on the daily mail's bombshell about hunter biden. forensic experts said to the daily mail, yes, they did authenticate that it is hunter's laptop. the laptop, if it's his, it has thousands of shocking and explicit photos, hundreds of thousands of e-mails and texts, and it comes after hunter biden told cbs, yes, this laptop, quote, could certainly be mine. now the fallout for the biden administration, and the media and social media like facebook and twitter who censored this story that voters didn't hear about during the election. with us tonight, former acting attorney general matthew

whitaker, top attorney brett tolman, congressman byron donalds and dolly and jenny lynch are pros in reality, kt mcfarland and general michael mcguire. we also have tonight youtube is accused of again botching it, censoring a video of florida governor ron desantis talking to medical experts from oxford, stanford and harvard university. they opposed strict lockdowns as detrimental to the public. when youtube has other videos saying the exact same thing, talking about the exact same debate, the lockdowns are bad for people. so are they targeting governor desantis because he's a potential 2024 presidential contender? this comes after "60 minutes" admitted that, yes, it did alter and censor desantis' comments explaining about vaccinations at publix supermarkets in florida. and to georgia, a top state

official slamming the mainstream media saying they're, quote, dishonest and hypocritical. another top georgia official, secretary of state there, claims georgia democrat stacey abrams is poll testing the impact of words like, quote, jim crow or voter suppression in order to raise political donations. but stacey abrams' group is blasting back. we've got that fight. and to illinois, democrat governor pritzker, chicago mayor lori lightfoot, they got booed at a chicago white sox game, the crowd voicing their anger over everything from rising, skyrocketing crime to these democrat officials who broke their own lockdown rules. also tonight the biden administration in a baffling move, it did not increase funding for homeland security in the middle of an historic border crisis as even house democrats say house speaker nancy pelosi and other officials, stop being awol at the border, go to the

border. instead of claiming there is no border crisis, then try to claim it's trump's fault. that's a 180 even democrats don't like. thanks for joining us. i'm elizabeth macdonald, "the evening ed different" starts right now. ♪♪ elizabeth: let's welcome back to the show former acting attorney general matthew whitaker. sir, it's great to have you back on. the daily mail bombshell, shocking details that hunter left out of his tell-all memoir, top forensics experts say that, yes, they did authenticate that it is his laptop. they include a former fbi veteran agent. so it's got hundreds of thousands of texts and e-mails and really disturbing, graphic photos. when you saw the story, what was your reaction? >> well, liz, it's good to be with you tonight. the first instinct i had was just how we were told this was such of a nonstory before the election, how all the conservatives and republicans

were told that, you know, there's suspicion that this could be disinformation from a foreign country and, you know, that i somehow we should ignore this. and it's very clear now that, you know, hunter biden desperately wanted his tad to run for president -- dad to run for president because that was his business with his dad in the public eye with. obviously, he sits to take advantage of that including publishing this book. elizabeth: well, you know, critics are saying not only is this harrowing stuff and it's graphic, we just want to warn the viewers, it shows that hunter's drug addiction is even worse than realized. it shows him consorting with drug pushers and prostitutes. daily mail reporting he, quote, appeared on is accessed with making porn films with prostitutes. that's according to the texts and e-mails, pictureses they saw. >> yeah. this laptop and the coverage of it it is disturbing, and i'm sure it's going to continue to come out, the deranged things

that hunter biden was doing. and remember, this is the son of our current president. and i'm sure joe biden was desperate to try to get hunter biden to clean up and get sober, and i'm sure the entire team that was working on his presidential campaign in 2019 and 2020 were making sure that they were somehow keeping this out of, out of the light of day. you know, it's just, it's really sad. drug addiction, you know, hurts a lot of families and a lot of communities, and in this case this is the son of the president who was doing some fairly disturbing things very recently. elizabeth: and possible breaking the law. you know, this could be criminal stuff. you know, it shows how he blew hundreds of thousands of dollars on drugs, prostitutes and more. and he has to ask his father for help. hunter biden faced $320,000 of unpaid taxes. he could are gone to prison for that. but it also shows munter bullying -- hunter bullying his father. begging his father to run for president to sallage hunter's

own reputation and hunter used, quote, joe biden as a punching bag. he had drug-fueled rants in order to get money from joe biden to pay for him and his grandkids' bills after he drained his own bank accounts on crack and prostitutes. >> yeah, it's very troubling. the potentially illegal acts, there's mention of potentially the secret service was presenting him during this period of time. and then also remember, there's this whole idea that he may have falsified a record and submitted an application to get a handgun that could potentially be illegal. and i think it points to really what a lot of your viewers are concerned about as well as i am, and that is the two-tiered system of justice where politically powerful democrats seem to escape odds whether it's hillary clinton or hunter biden, and republicans are targeted and incessantty pursued for the -- incessantly pursued.

we've got to get this system of justice to not only appear fair, but to be fair. elizabeth elizabeth the forensic perts said they found no evidence this was hacked or fabricated by russians or anyone else. are there national security issues here, you know, given that, you know, hunter biden was traveling so heavily overseas with his father and else, you know, other trips as well? you know, that's the thing too because, you know, joe biden's campaign, joe biden said this is a bunch of garbage, this laptop. hunter said the laptop, quote, could certainly be his. do you see national security issues here? >> i do. first of all, i don't think there's any doubt that this is his laptop if his information. but at the same time, i think this is a national security issue, and i think it's an ongoing national security issue. if we learned anything during the russian collusion hoax, that is that there's compromising material that can be used against politicians, and this certainly, you know, these text messages between the president and his son in addition to all

the other information on this laptop the could certainly have been used to leverage a relationship or be used against a sitting president and his family. and that's, you know, very disturbing. and i think it is something that presents significant national security issues. elizabeth: matthew whitaker, thanks for joining us. come back soon. let's bring in former u.s. attorney breath tolman. -- brent tolman. this is harrowing for any parent if, but this is hunter biden. he made millions of dollars in business dealings overseas by flying around the world on air force two when his father was vice president and getting secret service protection. when you saw the story, what did you think? >> liz, great to be with you. i'll tell you, when i saw the story, it was immediately haunting. and what i mean by that is when this first came out, there was, you knowing or the suspicion of what was contained on the laptop. there was leaks of minor aspects of it. there was an indication that

there may be dealing in drugs and prostitution and the involvement of the firearm. here though we had it confirmed, and i'm going to tell you, you know, your last guest, matt's absolutely correct, there's a two-tiered system in our country right now, in our justice system. but it's even more stark than i think what has been outlined. i am confident that had somebody really seen this case early on and there was an intent to investigate it, hunter biden would be looking at decades in federal prison. elizabeth: oh, wow. that's a heavy charge. okay. the other thing, too, hunter biden has never addressed this big problem at the center of his claims about the story. he signed a receipt for the laptop left at the delaware computer repair shop. his signature is on it. so he's never talked about that. and, you know, you just brought up two-tier thed justice. the daily mail reporter on this story brought that up too last night on fox news. let's listen to this, watch.

>> hunter goes to him saying that he doesn't have enough money, that, you know, he's being bled dry by these alimony payments when, in fact, he's spending thousands of dollars on prostitutes, on crack cocaine. and joe biden says can i pay your kids edentist bills -- kids ' dentist bills, to you need cash. and this is a man, joe biden, who has been very, very harsh on drug users in the past. he's someone who said george bush sr.'s policies on drugs were not tough enough. and he pushed in his time as a senator for stronger sentences on drug users and people involved in truck crimes. seems to be that he has a different approach when it comes to his own son. elizabeth: what do you think? >> the '94 crime bill and the aftermath of that crime bill and the effort of senator biden at the time senator was to increase

and ramp up mandatory minimum sentences for very modest amounts of crack cocaine. that's why the reporter is accurate, matt whitaker's accurate, and i stand by the statement that if somebody wanted to truly investigate this, if he wasn't being protected by powerful politicians -- namely, his father -- if he wasn't being protected by law enforcement or secret service agents if that, in fact, occurred, having a firearm and having possession of crack cocaine or other drugs in modest amounts right now is landing people in federal prison for decades. elizabeth: got it. you know, hunter biden went on late night talk shows. he was on last night. let's listen to what he said about being -- admitting, yeah, i've been in pretty rough places. watch this. >> do you know donald trump jr.? >> no. >> you never met him. >> not that i know of. not that i know of --

[laughter] i've been in some pretty rough places. >> it could have been yours. >> of course, certainly. there could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. it could be that it was the russian intelligence, it could be that it was the stolen from me. elizabeth: okay, you know, that last sound bite with the could be, could be, he said certainly could be, you know, brett, he's remembering details from when he was little, and now he can't -- he's not going to say definitively, yeah, it's his laptop when it's pretty clear it's his, right in what do you think? >> yeah, it's classic deflection technique to, you know, articulate what, you know, all the potential for this piece of evidence to really not be, you know, damning to him and it's not his laptop. bottom line is the joke has really been on all of us. the media has coddled him. there's been no accountability. you know, agents have protected

they're not editors. that was never supposed to be their intent. section 230 never allowed for them to be these editors, and it's time we reform these laws in congress. elizabeth: we hear you loud and clear because a they've got blanket immunity from lawsuits when newspapers and other media don't. so they're not accountable, right? you know what's so weird? youtube has other videos saying the exact same thing this video was saying. now, sir, if the youtube gang, they're not -- if they're public policy experts, doesn't seem like they are, if they're upset about the talk about masks for children, why not put up a disclaimer saying the w.h.o. says masks for 5 and under kids, you don't need it, it's bad. you know what i mean? why delete it? that's such a dallaser thing to do. >> -- drastic thing to do. >> because they're not in the business of allowing for a open

were really going hard after that. but, you know, this comes after "60 minutes" admitted it did, yes, alter a report that made governor desantis look worse with the publix supermarket coverage. politifact looks like they edited it deliberately. is he a target? is ron desantis a target because he may run in 2024? >> of course he is. ron desantis is the most successful governor in our country. he's america's governor. he's been right more often than not than any other governor in the united states. so, of course, he's a target. he's a target for one very simple reason, he's a conservative who also happens to be a governor and is proving that conservative principles and actually following data and not pandering to the left actually works. but it helps all the citizens of florida. i'm so grateful he's our governor because he's led our state in such a traumatic time.

sterling, he's not a fan of trump's, he's saying the mainstream media is dishonest, and he said they, quote, criticized every claim of trump but take similar claims at face value from biden and georgia democrat stacey abrams. what do you say? >> well, yes, of course. first of all, thank you for having me. but let's be clear, they're calling this jim crow 2.0. jim crow, one of the most offense e things this nation -- offensive things this nation has ever done. they're saying it's comparable to an election law that retained election protocol that are more liberal than that of biden's home state of delaware. biden's state doesn't have the same early voting capacity that georgia still has under this new law. so if they're going to be honest about this, maybe they'll equate it to one of the most offensive things this nation has ever done. the fact is they overplayed their hand because they listened to political propaganda for personal gain. elizabeth: georgia's secretary of state, brad rathens berger,

doesn't like the law either. let's listen to him, and then let's listen to gabe sterling. watch this. >> i think also probably stacey abrams has already poll tested the word jim crow. that plays well just like when she poll tested the word voter suppression back in 2014. this is part of her hustle for making money. she's raised over $100 million now with her voter suppression council which is not based in reality. >> nobody's actually read the 98-page bill. they're reading the press releases and accepting what they're saying. what i find interesting is a lot of the mainstream media who criticized and examines every claim of president trump takes similar claims from this president and stacey abrams and accepts it at face value. and that's not fair and it's wrong. elizabeth: you know, what do you make of that? >> i mean, obviously, both are true. joe biden was given his talking

points by centers for american progress or whoever else is pulling the puppet strings, and he said things that were untrue. four pinocchios for everything he said according to "the washington post." and as a result, corporate america is terrified, they are terrified of getting the woke blacklist. and so you have a situation where major league baseball which still does business with the chinese communist party and also the dictatorship of cuba and pulling out of georgia, a majority black with city, and moving -- black city, and moving one of their most important vents to the lily white state of colorado. elizabeth: we reached out to stacey abrams' office for comment. a group that supports her replied with a statement. it's from the fair fight action voting rights group. they're saying the law shortens the vote-by-mail period and also

reduces drop box availability. it does actually extend the early voting days to 17 days, and it codifies for the first time ballot drop off boxes. we didn't have that for the 2020 election. it does reduce the runoff to four weeks from nine weeks but, you know, there's a lot of, like, fastballs and a lot of angles being taken that, you know, the viewer out there is thinking who to believe, right? if because we looked at the law, and we didn't see what the democrats are criticizing. we looked at the whole panoramic view of it, and it looks like they're trying to do election integrity and vote security. >> i mean, it's clear that the entire impetus behind attacking this bill is is the idea that it's motivated by trump's mostly baseless claim that the georgia election or the electoral college was stolen. and that's fine. you can criticize trump's

and they're all coming to see what is it, will i be able to be happy there. and i have to tell you, we are see so many clients, and they run the spectrum of political persuasions, right9? so they're liberal, conservatives. it doesn't matter. they don't want to pay taxes. that is the common thing. >> right. we've been overrun. we're in florida right now. we've been going between palm beach, miami, fort lauderdale, we just closed a deal there yesterday, beautiful building, and it's because people want to skip the new york city taxes and come to florida. and we're hearing the same thing from our colleagues in texas. people from san francisco are migrating in the same fashion. so it's really a countrywide problem. >> florida and texas are courting businesses, clients, everyone. is saying, please leave. >> right. elizabeth: so new york is going the raise the top rates all in to 52 percent, and you're right, we're hearing san francisco,

that's where the most people are leaving. they're fleeing san francisco. so ors you know, and they tend to be going to be texas. so what do you advise people -- do you think people should hold on to properties in these high-tax, high-crime states and cities saying maybe it'll turn around? what would you tell them to do? >> you know, i think they should do what a lot of our clients are doing is buy a property in the state you think you want to be in. whether it's long term or short term, right in they may want to be in florida five years from now, ten years from now. do it now, put your foot in, see how it feels, then decide if you want to sell new york, because you're going to sell new york at a loss. >> right. and the biden administration is considering raising the federal tax rate which you can't get away from unless you want to leave the country to 40%. plus new york city is adding 13 if.5% to 4.8%, so -- 4.8%. so like you said, people are

saying if i can cut back 15%, it might move sense to -- make sense to move elsewhere and travel to work because this is the first time in history where you actually don't have to live where you work. you can likely commute given you only have to be in the office a couple times a week or once a month depending on what schedule you have. >> you know, we're seeing one company after another, one hedge fund after another, you know, leaving. and even jetblue, which is the scariest of all, they have 1300 full-time employees in long island city. the lease is up, and they're looking to come to florida. now, that's really not good for new york, when bread e and butter -- elizabeth: that's a great point. you guys -- >> fast. elizabeth: we hear exactly what you're saying. these are great points. we've got nancy pelosi and chuck schumer saying, you know what? we may put back in the state and local tax deduction that president trump removed. would that be, you know, an impetus for people to say, hey,

maybe we'll look at new york, san francisco? property values are going down, we'll buy now. what do you think? >> well, it's probably not going to happen, right in i don't think they have the votes. so i think they're really just speaking to everyone and saying, hey, we're trying, we're doing this, we're thinking of that. but i don't think they sincerely think they can get that passed. >> it would definitely ease the pape, but it's likely not to happen -- pain. so the exodus, literally 400 plus a day from new york city are moving elsewhere, to a lower tax state. and these disproportionate earners, the highest 1% pay 42.5% of new york state income tax. so -- revenue. so if any of those people decide to leave, it's really going to hurt new york even further. and new york just got a $50 billion bailout. so really i don't know why they're raising taxes at all. elizabeth: yeah. that's exactly right. so where's that money going? the we're going to stay on it. you guys are terrific, dolly and jenny lens. come back soon, it's good to see

really struck me about this is it was an unscripted moment. despite what the announcer was saying, oh, these are wonderful officials they've done great things, this is one of the first times that a democrat mayor and governor have been out in public where the crowd wasn't preselected. president biden, vice president harris, governor newsom, governor cuomo or when they do public events, they're very carefully scripted. the people in the audience are very carefully chosen. the questions that are asked are softball questions. in this case here we are, all-american sports, baseball, and even after that glowing recommendation from the announcers, what do the people do in the audience? they booed. and they booed really loudly. all across the country people are not paying a whole lot of attention to what they're reading in the woke media or the cancel culture mob or in the people who are a saying, oh, everything's great. the average guy is pretty dissatisfied not only with the

lockdowns and school closings, the economy, the higher taxes, but in chicago especially with the crime and murder rate. elizabeth: yeah. murder rate is up from last year, and the shootings are skyrocketing in chicago. and by the way, these two democrats broke their own lockdown rules that they demanded for everybody. lori lightfoot threatened to throw people in jail, and she went to a hair salon, and governor j.b. pretty kerr, his family went to florida and wisconsin during his stay at home shutdown orders, and he said you ask about that you're, quote, reprehensible. >> haven't they all broken them? i mean, gavin newsom has gone to restaurants when he's had restaurant lockdown orders. of governor cuomo of new york, he's given his own personal family preferential treatment on testing and on vaccines. you've seen now what you just mentioned in illinois. i mean, yeah, they've got big, tough rules for even else, but they're not following them

themselves, and the hypocrisy of it, i think, adds to the dissatisfaction that the average person is feeling. i think this example shows there's really a lot of dissatisfaction, and it's going to show up in the polls, and it's going to show up in the 2022 election. elizabeth: interesting. you know what's interesting too? amazon, the warehouse in bessamer, alabama, said no to unionization by an overwhelming amount, more than double the workers opposing being group job niced versus those who were for it -- unionized. it looks like those workers saw both sides and the media's saying they were pressured. some media not reporting the land slide against unionization. so that's a big pushback too, kt. what do you say? >> yeah. not only that, like, for example, youtube has just taken down a press conference of governor desantis in florida. they're censoring. i mean, the social media and the media, the woke media, they're

for at least two weeks, governor ducey has been calling on the federal government and my role as the commanding general in the emergency manager for emergency management of a military affairs in arizona we searched our soldiers and airmen to the border under bush, obama and trump administrations because we believe that border security is not only national security but it's community security and receive an increase in illegal crossings, some real security issues for people in personnel on both sides of the border as a rule of law is degraded even further in arizona. larry: why not get you guys more money, you have a humanitarian crisis, national security crisis, public health crisis at the border, not more money coming in democrats are still a-wall not going to the border and talking president biden and vice president kamala harris, how speaker pelosi and chuck

schumer are not going there. they claim crisis but then they tried to claim its trump's fault, that's a weird 180. >> i think the change in policy, as an example we saw in the previous surge of illegal crossings we had only about 15% claiming asylum in our yuma sector in southwest arizona that is pivoted from 80% of the illegal crossers are claiming asylum and i believe it is safe to say that they are looking for loopholes to take advantage of this and the time is becoming so crowded and the facilities that customer border protection are releasing in some of our more rural communities up to 50 personnel per day that are either adults or family units into the communities that have less than a thousand people and that creates a humanitarian and a public health crisis for the

very rural and under resourced communities is being entered. liz: it's not fair to them rural communities in the border towns, what they have to contend with because of failed border policies, we hear you loud and clear, we have this too, democrats are saying what you doing democrat i will representative is a nancy pelosi do you see what's happening at the border, you have to go there, congress has kicked the stand for far too long so they sit there in d.c. and criticize border authority and criticize the people at the border trying to do the right thing but then they don't go there, they are a-wall, your reaction to that. >> you are right about this one key factor without the biden administration authorizing federal funding for our guardsmen we can only be in support of our county sheriff's
